Back in April my husband and I took a quick trip down to North-East Tasmania for our 10th Wedding anniversary and celebrated in the only way we know how, by being total nerds!
Staying in Derby for 4 days, we embarked on another fossicking adventure on the Weld River with Mark, from Secret River Tours. It was a spectacular day in the river and we found lots of deliciously blue sapphires, though most were fairly small, but more on that in a moment. Mark suggested we try a spot on the Ringarooma River close to where we were staying, so Ben packed the fishing rod and off we headed to kick rocks, turning up a stunning 9+ carat bi-colour smokey quartz, and some other little goodies.
I also managed to squeeze in a little bit of wax carving on our balcony, and a visit to the Derby Lapidary Club as we headed back out of town.
Back home and surveying our finds, I decided to send off a small parcel of stones to the wonderful Langford Gems for Scott to cut and the results are spectacular! Some of these stones will make their way to the website soon, but the bi-colour sapphire is going in to a special piece for myself. It's so thrilling to know that I will be able to track the entire provenance of these pieces from the earth to the body.
Stay tuned for more updates on socials as these stones and others start to make their way to the website in coming weeks.
